Honda Recalls More Than 880,000 Vehicles Over Rear Suspension Risk

Honda announced the recall of more than 880,000 vehicles in the United States due to a possible failure in rear suspension components that could compromise control of the vehicle.
The measure was announced by American Honda Motor Co., which explained that the problem is concentrated in the rear subframe, specifically at anchor points that could corrode over time.
If that corrosion progresses, the suspension structure could weaken, increasing the risk of loss of stability and, consequently, the possibility of a crash.
Although the company estimates that only about 1% of the vehicles analyzed have this defect, it decided to activate the recall as a preventive measure to avoid more serious incidents.
Models and States Included in the Campaign
The recall affects certain Honda Pilot models from 2016 to 2022, Ridgeline models from 2017 to 2023, and Passport models from 2019 to 2023, as well as the Acura MDX from 2014 to 2020.
In total, the campaign covers 880,514 units sold in northeastern and midwestern states, as well as in the District of Columbia, regions where weather conditions can favor corrosion.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, assigned campaign number 26V367000 to this recall, while Honda identifies it internally with the codes AOU and AOT.
Vehicle identification numbers, or VINs, included in the campaign will be available for public lookup on NHTSA.gov starting June 10.
No Injury Reports
Honda reported that so far it has not received warranty claims or reports of injuries or deaths linked to this specific defect.
The company explained that the decision to recall the vehicles responds to internal evaluations and the intention to correct any potential risk before incidents are recorded.
The main focus is to prevent corrosion from advancing to the point where it compromises the rear subframe structure and causes suspension failures.
This type of preventive action is common when there is a possibility that a structural component could directly affect driving safety.
Free Inspection and Letters to Owners
As part of the solution, Honda and Acura dealerships will inspect the rear subframe at no cost to affected owners.
If necessary, a reinforcement kit will be installed, or damaged components will be repaired or replaced, also at no cost.
Notification letters will begin being mailed on July 7, detailing the steps owners of included vehicles should follow.
